Overview
Are you a qualified Financial Investigator able to conduct money laundering investigations and confiscation proceedings? A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the City of York Council's trading standards investigation team.
The postholder will take a leading role overseeing trading standards investigations into rogue trading and illegal sales of tobacco and vapes amongst many other types of criminal activity. You will also aid investigations into frauds against the council and from time to time help officers from other authorities on a cost recovery basis.
You will use your powers to help identify offenders and those assisting them, as well as unidentified victims. You will freeze bank accounts and seize assets illegally obtained from crime and seek to confiscate them through appropriate proceedings and have day to day management of any restraint orders. In addition, you will make other court applications for surveillance and warrants as well as generally helping progress the team’s investigations. You will enjoy the benefit of being well connected to other experienced financial investigators in the trading standards and the wider financial investigation community.
Hours and location
This post is 22.2 hours per week with flexible, hybrid working. The role can largely be carried out from home, typically with office or other location one or two days per week. The role may appeal to those with childcare commitments or seeking a better work/life balance.

Hybrid working arrangements are available. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team and working arrangements will be determined in collaboration with you during the recruitment process.
Requirements
As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their ability to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public in spoken English to CEFR level C2: express themselves spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow.
