I have been exclusively instructed on a newly created Senior Group Legal Counsel role with a high-growth, private equity-backed specialty insurance broker in London. The business has scaled rapidly through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions and is now entering its next phase, with a clear focus on integration, value creation and further building out a sophisticated, market-leading specialty broking platform.
Reporting directly to the GC, this is a broad and genuinely high-impact role, with a strong focus on core insurance broking and intermediary matters, including TOBAs, complex distribution arrangements and insurer relationships across specialty lines. The role also encompasses UK regulatory frameworks such as FCA requirements, SMCR, client money and conduct, alongside wider commercial contracting, strategic projects and some contentious matters. A key and differentiating aspect of the position is the opportunity to work closely with the business on technology-led initiatives, including digital distribution, data strategy and AI-driven developments, making it particularly well suited to someone interested in how innovation is reshaping the specialty insurance market. It offers significant autonomy and visibility, with regular engagement at senior leadership and board level, and the chance to play a central role in shaping a modern, forward-looking legal function within a dynamic PE-backed environment.
The ideal profile is a lawyer who trained at a leading private practice firm and has since moved in-house within the insurance sector, ideally within a specialty broker or intermediary environment, bringing strong technical grounding combined with commercial instinct. A solid understanding of the UK insurance regulatory landscape is important, alongside the ability to operate credibly in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and growth-focused business.
