Through understanding, we will empower each individual to achieve their aspirations. Job Overview: We are currently looking for an inspirational Deputy Head Teacher to join our Executive Principal and the supportive education team at the iMap Centre. The students are at the centre of everything we do. The school is an incredible place for children with complex needs arising from autism, behaviour difficulties and learning difficulties to thrive, learn new skills, grow in confidence, and make new friends. Reporting to the Principal you will be responsible: · To undertake the normal responsibilities of the class teacher. · To record and report on progress of pupils. · To support the designated Safeguard lead in the school. · To undertake the professional duties of the Principal in her absence. · To play a major role under the Principal in formulating and reviewing School Development Plans. · To be a member of the Education SMT. Key Responsibilities: · To be an excellent classroom practitioner · To develop schemes of work and lesson plans that are stimulating, relevant and well-structured to a wide range of abilities and communication needs to ensure all students are able to participate and reach their full potential. · To establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities · To prepare classroom for class activities · To provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities · To identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs · To use relevant technology to support instruction · To manage student behaviour in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures · To maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school · To have taken an active involvement in school self-evaluation and development planning. · To have implemented and developed a whole school initiative. · To be able to demonstrate effective leadership in a school. Strategic Direction and Development of the School: · To work with the Principal and other members of the staff team to ensure the successful delivery of the vision, ethos, aims and objectives of the school. · To deliver the ethos of the School and the educational vision and direction which enables effective teaching and support, successful learning and achievement by students and sustained improvements in their spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical well-being in preparation for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. Learning and Teaching: · To deliver effective teaching and learning and monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching support and standards in students’ achievement, using benchmarks and setting targets for improvement · To monitor, evaluate and review students’ performance and development and implement strategies to ensure that all students achieve and learn · To ensure that individual behaviour strategies are incorporated into all planning for teaching and learning. · To provide appropriate verbal feedback on work · To maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development including SMSC, and personal, social and emotional development. Leading and Developing People: To contribute to the culture for the continuous professional development for support staff, where learning and development activity is closely linked to individual, team and organisational priorities Accountability: · To prepare required reports on students and activities · To participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings · To communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs · To keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities Strengthening Community: · Liaise with outside agencies to set up relevant work placements for students where appropriate · To work in partnership with all school staff, parents, carers and other agencies in providing for the academic, spiritual, moral, social, emotional and cultural well-being of students · To promote a culturally inclusive ethos which actively values and promotes diversity, unity and community cohesion and supports students to become successful citizens · To work in liaison with the Senior Management Team and all relevant agencies in order to adequately safeguard and protect the students. Additional Duties: · To act as the Safeguard Lead and promote the welfare of all children and young people in the school by being familiar with and aware of the School’s Safeguarding and protection issues, procedures and guidelines and to adhere to them at all times. · To be aware of your responsibilities in accordance with the current Health and Safety at Work Act · QTS · NPQSL or willingness to work towards · Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people both orally and in writing. · Ability to think out of the box and adapt the learning for each pupil. · Well organised and self-motivated · Good interpersonal skills including ability to work effectively with a range of people and agencies. · Ability to demonstrate appropriate knowledge of: · Current Disability/SEN theory and practice particularly linked to Autism. · Safeguarding and child protection frameworks · Relevant legal and scrutiny frameworks · Inclusive approaches to raise attendance, attainment, and achievement.
