Working days will be mixed depending on position offered. Working flexibly within the dental team to provide high quality care to a wide spectrum of patients within the Dental Service, based at Birmingham Dental Hospital (BDH) and/or additional external sites such as Community Dental Services (CDS) if required. Dental Nurses will be expected to work flexibly across the Dental Services.
Main Duties of the Job
* Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service.
* To prepare and monitor patients for and during their dental treatment, providing pre and post operative instructions as required.
* To undertake the general care of the surgery including dental equipment/instruments (medical devices) and arrange any necessary repairs as required.
* To ensure medical emergency drugs and equipment are available and up to date.
* To provide chair side assistance and postoperative instructions during general anaesthetic sessions as required.
* To provide oral health education to patients as required by the clinician.
* To assist the Senior Dental Nurse in the smooth running of the Dental service.
* To support and assist Clinicians including all staff and Undergraduate disciplines.
* To support and supervise all Apprentice Dental Nurses and Undergraduates.

Person Specification
* Education – Essential: Dental Nursing Qualification; Professional Registration with General Dental Council
* Education – Desirable: Post Qualification in Conscious Sedation; Other Dental Nursing post qualifications
* Experience – Essential: Relevant experience working as part of a dental team e.g., General Practice, Hospital, other Primary Dental Services / Community Dental Services experiencing chair side duties
* Experience – Desirable: Experience of working with children, elderly, medically compromised patients, and patients with learning disabilities
* Skills and Knowledge: To interact professionally with individuals; Understand the principles of confidentiality; Up to date knowledge in all areas of dental nursing; Manual dexterity; Ability to work under pressure and on own initiative; Organisational skills; Good general numeracy; Good working knowledge of cross infection procedures; Computer skills; Knowledge of dental procedures
