Job Title: Chief Engineer – Luxury / Heritage

Salary Guide: £75,000 – £85,000 + package
About the Role
We are seeking an accomplished Chief Engineer to take full responsibility for the strategic and operational management of all engineering, maintenance, and technical services across a prestigious five-star country house property. This role is pivotal in preserving the estate’s historic assets while ensuring the smooth running of modern infrastructure. You will play a central role in safeguarding compliance, supporting guest experience, and delivering long-term operational excellence.
Please note: This role requires flexibility and the ability to be available outside of usual working hours, as the estate operates across a 24/7 luxury hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Heritage Estate Compliance & Preservation: Lead all engineering activities in line with heritage regulations and conservation requirements, ensuring works protect the estate’s architectural and historic integrity.
* Operational Oversight & Asset Management: Oversee the full range of engineering services, including life safety systems, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, water hygiene, and estate infrastructure. Manage vendor relationships and ensure effective response to reactive maintenance needs.
* Budget & Capital Projects: Develop and control departmental budgets, deliver capital investment programmes, and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies.
* Health & Safety & Compliance: Ensure statutory compliance across all areas, lead risk assessments, oversee emergency response protocols, and drive a proactive safety-first culture.
* Team Leadership & Development: Lead, inspire, and develop a skilled engineering team, promoting a service-focused, solutions-driven approach aligned with luxury hospitality standards.
About You
* Proven track record in engineering leadership within hotels, luxury, heritage, or high-end hospitality environments.
* knowledge of heritage regulations, listed building compliance, and conservation best practice.
* Experienced in budgeting, capital project delivery, and preventative maintenance strategies.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
* Flexible, resilient, and able to thrive in a dynamic, high-expectation environment, with a willingness to respond to operational needs outside of standard hours.
