Level 2 Facilities Operative Apprenticeship @ Queensmead Secondary School
Queensmead School is a thriving secondary school located in the suburbs of London for students aged 11-18 years. The school is close to South Ruislip underground station and comprises 11 buildings on the site. We are looking for a motivated apprentice to support our Facilities team with day-to-day tasks, including cleaning, maintenance, security, and Health & Safety. This is a great opportunity to learn hands-on skills and play a key role in keeping the school safe, clean, and running smoothly.
Job Details
* Salary: £7.55 per hour, salary increase after the first year provided you are 19+
* Hours: 36 hours per week
* Times: Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm
* Duration: 13 months
* Level: 2 Facilities Operative Apprenticeship standard qualification
* Training: Online training and support by dedicated tutors

Responsibilities
* Assist with opening/closing and securing school buildings and grounds
* Perform reactive/planned maintenance (plumbing, carpentry, cleaning, etc.)
* Respond to helpdesk maintenance requests, prioritising and resolving efficiently
* Support Premises Manager with all site duties (repairs, safety, access, etc.)
* Set up/take down furniture and equipment for events
* Communicate with staff/contractors on maintenance work and timelines
* Lead small projects/minor works
* Support key events (e.g., Open Evenings)
* Patrol site for hazards and order goods as needed
* Assist with site security (alarms, locks, CCTV, emergencies)
* Provide general portering and handle deliveries
* Escort visitors/contractors and support fire drills
* Monitor/report building issues and contractor performance
* Support site safety, traffic control, inspections, and H&S compliance
* Help supervise and carry out cleaning/litter duties
* Drive and maintain the school mini bus
* Follow all school policies (safeguarding, H&S, data protection)
* Participate in training and handle emergencies if needed
* Support external lettings and assist contractors in the manager’s absence
