NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

Person specification


Education and training

* - Full GMC registration, licence to practice and specialist registration in ENT (or eligible for or within 6 months of eligibility for)
* - Primary medical degree
* - CCT or within 6 months of CCT (or equivalent)
* - Higher Degree e.g. MSc
* - DCH, DCCH, MBA or other relevant diplomas
* - Teaching qualification


Experience

* - Wide experience of the specialty sufficient to enable safe independent specialist ENT expertise and practice
* - Evidence of having completed a clinical fellowship in paediatric otolaryngology
* - Evidence of subspecialist interest in paediatric head and neck and thyroid surgery
* - Demonstration of research experience (publications in peer reviewed journals, presentations at national and international meetings)
* - Evidence of ability to work with surgical MDT colleagues, in particular Adult Thyroid Surgeons


Skills

* - Teaching skills and experience
* - Ability to supervise the clinical work of doctors in training and other staff
* - Oral and written communication skills in English
* - Ability to organise and prioritise personal workload and that of others.
* - Ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with staff at all levels of the organisation. Ability to relate to patients and carers from a wide range of backgrounds and to empathise with their needs and concerns.
* - Evidence of being a team player and effective communicator as part of a multiagency team
* - Leadership: ability to develop a vision and lead the change that brings it into effect within a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency context
* - Effective time management, able to work under pressure
* - Well-developed reflective and self-care skills and able to foster these attributes in others
