Reporting to the Operations Director, you will lead a finite team and take ownership of day‑to‑day engineering function. The role calls for someone who can balance strategic thinking with hands‑on leadership, driving continuous improvement while supporting and developing the team around them.
The Role:
* Ensuring Engineering targets are met within deadlines, without compromising quality or control of costs.
* Ensuring a robust preventative maintenance system is in place and implemented.
* Ensuring good housekeeping is maintained.
* Maintaining policies, procedures and practices to satisfy all company rules and regulations.
* Carrying out monthly engineering audits on all preventative and reactive works that have been completed.
* Assessing and reporting all engineering repair costs.
* Sourcing and cost managing parts suppliers
* Assessing and maintaining adequate stock levels.
* Liaising with accounts and suppliers/contractors for invoice approval.
* Sourcing and cost managing all annual service and inspection contracts.
* Ensuring all buildings, plant and machinery are maintained to the highest possible standard and comply with regulations.
* Ensuring all departmental staff are capable of undertaking the jobs at hand, in a safe and capable manner and in compliance with all company rules and regulations.
* Managing all departmental staff to ensure a continuous safe working environment for all production and engineering staff.
* Ensuring all employees are performance managed, addressing any issues that arise, promptly and professionally by ensuring legislative compliance and best practice are followed at all times.
Key Tasks:
Checking and adjusting staff levels to ensure the most efficient running of the department
Identifying training needs for new and existing employees.
Conducting disciplinary hearings with departmental staff
Approving and managing holiday allowance to ensure adequate cover in the department
Maintaining good employee relations and promoting equality of opportunity.
Maintaining H&S and hygiene standards in accordance with Company rules and regulations.
Ensuring that all staff and visitors in the department wear appropriate PPE at all times.
Auditing the factory with relevant departmental managers on a weekly basis and reporting back at H&S meetings.
Creating and developing risk assessments in-line with company policy.
Highlighting any possible environmental issues to the Health & safety and site Facilities Manager for action.
Person Specification:
Leads and guides from the front
Background in FMCG manufacturing
Electrical or electronic biased, knowledge of mechanical
Health & safety experience (IOSH desirable)
A track record of leading through change or growth
Strong communication skills and a proactive, solutions‑focused mindset
