Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a 12-monthsecondment as Lead nurse for an orthopaedic elective unit. This unit as 12 protected beds for electiveOrthopaedic procedures only. This is anexcellent opportunity for someone wanting to expand their skills further andwork closely with the Arthroplasty nurse driving the team forward with theEnhanced Recovery Pathway for Total Hip and Knee arthroplasty surgery.
You will provide effective leadership,expertise, advice and support to a ward team and ensure the provision of thehighest quality care to patients and their families. To ensure the safe,effective and efficient overall management of the ward within allocatedresources and in accordance with Trust wide Policies and Procedures consistentlyto maintain and improve patient care and experience. You will have 24 hour continuingresponsibility for maintaining a safe environment and as Lead Nurse you will beresponsible for determining how objectives are set for the service delivery ofthe ward will best be achieved.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work inclose laison with the Matron and the Patient Services Manager as triumvirate working isparamount to drive this service forward
You will be responsibile for theassessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation ofprogrammes of care and the setting of clinical, professional and managerial standards.
Ifsuccessful you will need to be able to support good clinical practice, beresponsible for the leadership and operational management of the ward inallocating resources ensuring appropriate management of anything that threatensto affect the safety of the environment or to compromise the care of patients.
You will be expected to take a leadin ensuring the quality of service delivered within the sphere ofresponsibility by managing standard setting, monitoring performance againstlocal and national standards working along side the arthroplasty nurse bypromoting Patient related out comes and how we compare with other trusts. Interaction with patients and relatives toobtain feedback is a vital part of this role to help you participate with theMatron to handle, investigate and respond to complaints as appropriate, in atimely manner

1. 1st level registered nurse (equivalent to 1st degree) plus two years experience at either Nurse Grade F or Band 6 plus additional qualifications including Assessing and Mentoring qualification and additional relevant degree (or evidence of working towards a degree)
