Production Shift Manager (Nights) Join our team at The Compleat Food Group! We’re excited to offer an excellent opportunity for a Production Shift Manager to join our dedicated night shift team at our Crewe site. Working Hours: Sunday - Thursday: 10pm - 6am Location: Crewe Salary: up to £55,000 per annum DOE Job Purpose: You will be responsible for the management of the production facility on your shift, ensuring that the required operational standards are delivered at the specified product quality standards, in a safe and hygienic operational environment, and which deliver the required levels of customer service. Ensure correct staffing and skill levels are maintained on each line in order to maintain delivery of quality and efficiency metrics. Key Duties & Responsibilities: You will be responsible for ensuring all production is completed in accordance with the scheduled production plan and that all required recorded operational data is delivered throughout the shift. You will supervise and oversee the work of chargehands, line leaders and all factory operatives, enforcing company policies and procedures to promote high standards and compliance. Responsible for ensuring all products are produced in total compliance to customer and site specifications, in accordance with respective cost standards, with a particular focus on recording and delivering the specified efficiency, quality and waste targets. You will communicate to key members of your shift on performance metrics, incidents, and other relevant updates through daily meetings, huddles, toolbox talks, and 1‑to‑1s. You will escalate factory issues to the appropriate departments and management team in a timely manner using the internal escalation procedure. You will be adept at resolving issues arising on your shift, whether related to staffing, complaints, equipment breakdowns, or other challenges. Actively encourage and maintain “audit ready” status. Take responsibility for all visitors and contractors within your shift/departments. Lead and sponsor a continuous improvement culture on your shift; identifying key areas of efficiency where KPIs are measured, information is gathered, and improvement plans are in place and actioned. Prepare reports and participate in management and other routine meetings as required. Carry out any other duties deemed appropriate and consistent with your status and abilities as Factory Manager, and as directed by your line manager. Health, Safety & Environment Responsibilities: Ensure that the objectives of the Company Health, Safety & Environment Policy are fully understood and observed by all levels of managers and employees. Ensure resources are available so that the requirements of the company’s policy for safety, health and welfare, and all applicable legislation, can be complied with. Ensure risk assessments and systems of work are safe and free from risk to health, so far as reasonably practicable, and are documented, communicated and trained. Continually seek to reduce risk. Ensure adequate supervision is provided so work procedures are carried out correctly, including contractor and service personnel activities. Ensure managers operating outside normal working hours are adequately trained and aware of H&S procedures. Ensure plant and equipment conforms to legal Health & Safety requirements before use. Ensure protective clothing and equipment is available and used correctly. Maintain good housekeeping standards. Ensure remedial action is taken for reported defects, complaints and non‑conformances. Ensure equipment is properly maintained and records kept. Assist with audits and routine inspections. Stop any process operating unsafely or out of legal compliance. Monitor health and safety performance where responsibility is delegated. Provide incentives and recognition for exemplary performance and ensure disciplinary action is taken where standards are breached. Food Safety & Quality Responsibilities: Overall accountability for food safety and quality within the department, including: Dress code Good Manufacturing Practice Production to SOPs Closing out non‑conformances Continuous quality improvement CAYG, HACCP Paperwork accuracy Allergen and specification control Ensure random locker searches are completed. Ensure all equipment is calibrated and paperwork maintained. Demonstrate actions taken to proactively reduce complaints. Work in partnership with QA to investigate root causes of concessions and non‑conformances and minimise or eliminate recurrence. Leading People: Understand and follow recruitment processes using agreed interview templates and fair selection decisions. Allocate candidates based on skills and strengths. Ensure all group leaders have an up‑to‑date development and action plan (within the last 6 months). Resource the team effectively, considering absence, holidays, training, succession and leavers. Drive completion of skill matrices within the department. Investigate and chair complex disciplinary and grievance cases, including dismissals and appeals. Keep departments informed of business updates, priorities and performance through regular communications (e.g. huddles). Ensure group leaders effectively manage absence, time‑off requests, investigations and low‑level hearings. Reward and recognise strong performance and implement performance improvement plans when required. Knowledge, Skills & Experience: Experience managing people in a complex food production environment. Working knowledge of TROPOS (WMS) or similar ERP systems. Ability to analyse and present operational KPIs including OEE, labour and waste variances. Strong numerical, negotiation and managerial skills. Knowledge of baking processes and raw material functionality. Good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and risk assessments. High level of IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office. Ability to lead, motivate and inspire teams with energy and drive. Why Join Us?
