About the Role
One of my local government clients is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Facilities Technical Officer to manage and oversee cyclical services and reactive maintenance across a diverse housing portfolio. This includes communal blocks, temporary accommodation, leasehold properties, supported housing, and other council-owned tenures.
This role plays a critical part in safeguarding the condition and legal compliance of the council’s housing assets, ensuring all services meet statutory obligations, follow industry standards, and reflect best practices.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee the delivery of cyclical servicing and maintenance programmes across Council-managed properties.
*
Manage reactive maintenance issues efficiently, ensuring a prompt and effective response.
*
Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and safety standards for all building services and housing stock.
*
Monitor and inspect housing assets across the Big 6 compliance areas:
*
Gas Safety
*
Electrical Safety
*
Fire Safety
*
Water Hygiene (Legionella)
*
Asbestos Management
*
Lift Safety
*
Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and external agencies to ensure works are carried out to specification, within budget, and on schedule.

Maintain accurate records, asset registers, and compliance documentation in line with council policies.
*
Conduct site inspections and audits to verify works are completed to a high standard.
Candidate Requirements
*
Proven experience in facilities management or property compliance, ideally within a local authority or social housing setting.
*
Strong technical understanding of statutory compliance across housing assets.
*
Knowledge and/or qualifications in one or more of the Big 6 compliance areas.
*
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
*
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
*
Familiarity with asset management systems is desirable.
