The Role and Responsibilities
The Laboratory Technician will work within a well-resourced department, managing 10 labs with three technicians. The role involves planning laboratory resources, preparing materials, maintaining equipment, ensuring safety, providing technical advice, and supporting practical activities.
Provision of Practical Requirements
* Prepare, set up, check, issue, and clear away materials and apparatus.
* Monitor and repair equipment and materials.
* Dispose of residues safely, including hazardous waste.
Maintenance of Facilities and Resources
* Store apparatus and chemicals safely.
* Keep records of equipment and materials.
* Maintain AV equipment and general science equipment.
* Manage storage of manuals, keys, and tools.
* Handle radioactive materials responsibly.
* Organize resource rooms and request maintenance as needed.
Technical Advice and Assistance
* Advise teachers and pupils on resources and equipment.
* Assist with practical activities and demonstrations.
* Support Junior Science Club and data input for student performance.
Safety and Security
* Follow safe working practices.
* Stay updated on safety information.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and advise on non-compliance issues.
