The role involves providing a quality service to children and their families either in a contact centre, out in the community or occasionally, within the family home. It is essential that you are a confident, understanding individual who is able to demonstrate empathy, compassion and respect to children and families who are often in crisis, going through public or private court proceedings or experiencing their own challenges and/or a difficult period of their lives.

The main duties include, but are not limited to:

* Transporting children to and from family time sessions, if required.
* Ensuring harmful or abusive interactions are recognised and that steps are taken immediately to reduce or remove any harm to the child.
* Recording and reporting observations/interactions within family time.
* Building professional working relationships with families to ensure children and their families receive a positive experience throughout the process.
* Provide feedback to parents/carers at the beginning and end of every session (handover period).
* To complete detailed reports from notes taken during family time, providing evidence of general parenting ability and interactions, which are often submitted as evidence in Court Proceedings.
* Ensure at all times that the child's safety and well-being are paramount and take appropriate action to protect children's safety, intervening where this is threatened and terminating family time if deemed necessary.
* Be able to identify parent's strengths and areas for development and assist them to provide quality family time, setting up routines, appropriate boundaries and providing stimulation.

Skills and Abilities:

* Ability to communicate effectively with children and parents/carers in order to build positive, supportive relationships.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team, whilst being able to use your own initiative.
* Ability to use IT to write written reports. Support will also be provided to you.
* Ability to work alone but as directed by management.
* Ability to transport/escort children both within South Yorkshire and surrounding areas.
* Ability to handle conflict and difficult situations in a calm, respectful and non-confrontational manner.
* Have a non-judgemental attitude.

Requirements:

* A recognised qualification, such as NVQ/Diploma at Level 3 in Child Care or Health and Social Care or equivalent, or be working towards this.
* GCSE in English Grade C / Grade 4 or above.
* Statutory or voluntary experience of working with children and families - at least one year.
* Enhanced DBS check.
* Full UK Driving Licence and access to your own vehicle - preferred.
