Research Nurse – Acute and Chronic Conditions Research Team
Band 5, NHS AfC. Contract: Permanent, Full time – 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday).

As a registered adult nurse, you will work with the Team Leader, other team members and clinicians to develop a portfolio of studies across multiple specialties. You will promote a research‑active culture and support patients throughout their research journey.
Responsibilities
You will be a registered nurse with current NMC registration and post‑registration experience, ideally in acute or chronic adult care. The key duties include:
* Identifying, recruiting and supporting patients for clinical trials across disciplines such as Anaesthetics, ICU, Surgery, ED/Trauma, MSK, Stroke, Diabetes, Dermatology and Cardiology.
* Managing study documentation and data collection with accuracy and attention to detail.
* Co‑ordinating research activity across sites, including the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital, Burnley General Teaching Hospital and other Trust locations as required.
* Working flexibly to meet the needs of the service, including early starts or late finishes to accommodate study schedules.
* Collaborating with team members to enable mutual support and promote a culture of high research standards.
Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse / Registered Nurse Adult (1st Level) with current valid NMC registration.
* Evidence of continued professional development.
* ICH‑GCP training.
* Mentorship qualification or equivalent.
Skills
* Advanced interpersonal and communication skills.
* High level of organisation and time‑management skills.
* Advanced clinical skills (e.g., ECG).
Knowledge
* Understanding of the research process and its application within NHS clinical governance.
* Competence in standard IT packages.
* Ability to integrate nursing knowledge and skills with research requirements.
Experience
* Evidence of accuracy in data collection.
* Clinical nursing experience in adult acute and/or chronic conditions.
* Experience of clinical trials.
* Experience supervising staff or students.
Personal attributes
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
* Initiative‑taking, enthusiastic and organised.
* Interest in research.
* Flexibility and willingness to support other disciplines and locations.
* Access to a vehicle/transport for work purposes.
