Job Overview
The school’s successful Science department is seeking a new teacher to help create optimal group sizes. The department is looking for a candidate with the passion and enthusiasm to make a positive impact on the young people in the school.
The school has a dedicated Science wing with specialist teaching labs and an outstanding team of technicians. Lessons are designed to spark curiosity and foster exploration, and Science is one of the most popular subjects, with strong uptake at A-Level and many students aspiring to science-based careers. The school’s extensive site also supports outdoor learning opportunities, including the use of a weather station at the top of the school tower and designated habitat areas.
There is one position available, and applications are warmly welcomed from both experienced and newly qualified teachers.
Student progress and success are at the centre of teaching, achieved through engaging and well-planned lessons that make full use of the faculty’s wide range of resources.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be:
1. Qualified to degree level in a relevant subject and Qualified Teacher Status
2. Experienced in teaching practice and training within the subject area
3. Able to inspire and motivate students
4. Collaborative in approach and able to work as part of a team
5. Highly organised with excellent interpersonal skills
Core Purpose
To ensure that students make positive progress against prior attainment by maintaining consistently high-quality teaching, monitoring progress effectively, and implementing measures to address any areas of underachievement.
Responsibilities (for all teachers)
6. Meet the relevant Teachers’ Standards
7. Provide support to a form group within our House system including the planning, preparation, and delivery of tutor sessions.
8. Promote the values and aims of the school
9. Follow all relevant school policies
10. Safeguard and promote the welfare of children, reporting concerns in line with safeguarding policies
11. Create and maintain effective partnerships with parents and carers
12. Treat students, parents, and colleagues fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect
13. Comply with the school’s Health & Safety policy and statutory requirements
14. Plan and deliver engaging lessons that are paced, varied, and personalised to meet the needs of all learners
15. Ensure teaching reflects the diversity of student backgrounds and promotes mutual respect
16. Contribute to curriculum review to maintain a relevant, stimulating, and innovative curriculum
17. Take responsibility for personal professional development to stay current with subject knowledge, pedagogy, and wider educational issues
18. Assess student progress in line with policy and provide regular, constructive feedback
19. Implement strategies to address underperformance and monitor their effectiveness
20. Complete assessments and reports accurately and on time, ensuring high-quality feedback for parents and carers
21. Record attendance and punctuality, taking action where issues arise
22. Apply effective behaviour management strategies in line with school policy
23. Participate in lesson observations and quality assurance measures, addressing areas for improvement where identified
24. Take part in the appraisal process, setting professional development priorities that directly impact student learning
