About CFT
Cambridge Future Tech (CFT) is a technology-first venture builder working to commercialise exciting technologies from top-tier UK universities and corporate research departments. Since being founded in 2020, CFT has co-founded and built several companies each year; in total, these companies have created dozens of new jobs, filed multiple patents, and raised many millions of pounds in funding. The CFT portfolio spans a wide range of deeptech areas, from semiconductors and robotics to advanced materials and synthetic biology.
Position Overview
Part of the venture building process includes finding the right leadership team to commercialise the business alongside the founding academics. With several venture builds on the horizon, we are looking for a Chief Executive Officer that is willing to come in and build a company from the ground up.
Responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced Chief Executive Officer that will supervise and control all strategic and business aspects of the company. You will be the first in command and responsible for setting the proper strategic direction, building and leading the team, securing funding, and creating a vision for success.
Key to your success will be the ability to work under pressure and manage uncertainty while maintaining collaborative relationships with key stakeholders across the wider ecosystem. You will need to be highly organised, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ultimately, we are looking for a candidate that can bring the drive and ambition to deliver the maximum commercial impact from this technology. Successful candidates will be compensated as typical startup founder-operator, with equity in the spinout and the huge upside potential which this affords.
Develop high quality business strategies and plans ensuring their alignment with short-term and long-term objectives.
Lead and motivate team to advance engagement, and develop a high-performing team.
Oversee all operations and business activities to ensure they produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission.
Make high-quality investing decisions to advance the business and increase profits.
Enforce adherence to legal guidelines and in-house policies to maintain the company’s legality and business ethics.
Review financial and non-financial reports to devise solutions or improvements.
Build trust relations with key partners and stakeholders and act as a point of contact for important shareholders.
Analyse problematic situations and occurrences and provide solutions to ensure company survival and growth.
Maintain a deep knowledge of the markets and industry of the company
Qualifications
Proven experience as CEO or other C-suite role.
Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing vision.
Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles.
Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, PR, finance etc.
In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices.
An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills.
Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
MSc/MA in business administration or relevant field.
Compensation & Benefits
This venture is a pre‑funding early‑stage venture. The position will be associated with a significant equity‑incentive in a high‑growth startup. However, flexibility around short‑term pay will be required from successful applicants during the early stages of venture development.
