CNC Setter / CNC Machinist (Development Role into Production Engineering)
Location: Coventry (Full-Time, On-Site)
Salary: £35,000 £45,000 (dependent on experience)

Latham and Bond Recruitment Group are supporting a Coventry-based manufacturing business in hiring a CNC Setter / CNC Machinist with the clear intention to develop you into a Production Engineer. This is an opportunity to join a forward-thinking engineering team within a high-volume automotive component environment, working closely with the Head of Production to expand your CNC expertise into broader process engineering and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities: Set, operate, and optimise CNC machines (primarily milling of cast components).
Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues on the shop floor.
Collaborate with engineers to improve machining processes, reduce cycle times, and eliminate waste.
Assist in designing and refining jigs, fixtures, and tooling alongside the engineering team.
Support process documentation, including setup sheets and work instructions.
Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, gaining exposure to tooling, process planning, and sample production.
Uphold quality standards by performing in-process checks and basic SPC monitoring.
Promote and adhere to Health & Safety policies at all times.
Development Focus: In this role, you will be mentored by the Head of Production and Production Engineers to develop skills in:
Process analysis and optimisation across machining and assembly.
Advanced root cause analysis and structured problem-solving.
Lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, Kaizen, SMED).
Project management for new product and process introductions.
Cross-functional collaboration with Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering.
What Were Looking For: Proven experience as a CNC Setter or CNC Machinist in a manufacturing environment.
Confident in reading technical drawings and using measurement tools.
A passion for learning and developing into a Production Engineer.
A proactive, problem-solving mindset and strong attention to detail.
Good communication skills, able to work collaboratively across teams.
Basic computer skills (Excel, Word).
Desirable (not essential): Experience with CNC programming (desirable but can be developed).
Understanding of Lean manufacturing principles.
Familiarity with automotive or precision engineering environments.
