Health and Safety Coordinator [Temporary Cover]
The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute is seeking a Health and Safety Coordinator to support the Head of Department, Principal Investigators, and staff in ensuring a positive and safe working environment. This is a varied and interesting role working across a broad range of technologies, including genomics, proteomics, MRI, PET imaging, and genetic modification.
Key responsibilities will include assisting in the implementation and maintenance of local policies, developing and delivering safety training, conducting safety inspections and accident investigations, carrying out monthly checks on engineering controls, and maintaining an adequate supply of safety equipment. The post-holder will also assist the Health and Safety Manager in disseminating safety information to enable staff to make informed safety decisions and foster a proactive and collaborative approach to health and safety in the Institute.
The ideal candidate will be educated to HND level in a Biological or Chemical discipline or equivalent, with previous health and safety experience in a research or technological environment. Previous experience working with radioactive material and Containment Level 2 laboratories would be advantageous.
The successful candidate will have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels, good organisational skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a team player. They will also possess good analytical and problem-solving skills.
This post is fixed-term for 18 months or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier. Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check, a health assessment, and a security check.
