Biomedical Scientist – Virology/Immunology (Band 5)
Fixed‑term 18 months, based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Infection Sciences Department, North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.

We invite applications from HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists (or HCPC pending with completed IBMS portfolio assessment).
Main duties
* Perform approximately 140,000 virology/immunology tests per year using automated serological platforms: Cobas e601, Dynex DS2, Diasorin Liaison, Phadia 250, Sebia Capillarys, Hydrasys 2 and Binding Site Optilite.
* Operate molecular platforms on site: Cobas 6800, Seegene STARlet, Altona AltoSTAR and ABI Prism 7500; conduct manual ELISA tests.
* Serve as a referral centre for Aspergillus, Farmer’s Lung and Avian precipitin work.
* Apply comprehensive virology and/or immunology knowledge, performing manual and automated techniques.
Qualifications & Experience
* BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent with HCPC registration.
* Experience in virology and/or immunology, including automated and manual testing.
* Completion of IBMS portfolio assessment if HCPC pending.
* Experience in supervising/training staff, technical audit and laboratory health & safety (COSHH, risk assessment).
* Awareness of equality legislation and best practice.
