In our Environmental Assessment and Management team, we have team members at all technical levels (from Graduate to Technical Director) based in offices across the UK, specialising in EIA. Our work involves infrastructure and development projects in most sectors, in particular power & energy, rail, highways, water and residential/commercial development.
The role can be based from any of WSP’s UK offices and is ideally suited to a pro-active individual looking to use their initiative to progress their career.
As an Associate EIA Consultant within WSP's Environmental Assessment and Management team, you will work with a range of technical environmental specialists and design teams across multiple sectors to lead environmental teams and inputs to project designs and assessments. You will be instrumental in improving the environmental performance for a diverse range of projects across multiple sectors.
A typical week could include:
1. Providing environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues
2. Working with colleagues, diverse environmental specialists, clients and engineering teams to promote sustainable design and environmental enhancement
3. Leading large, multiple, and complex projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety
4. Building relationships with clients and identifying opportunities to provide support in areas such as resourcing, programming, strategy development and project delivery.
5. Proactively seeking to develop new client relationships and actively seeking opportunities for marketing services and cross-selling, including presenting at conferences on behalf of WSP.
6. Undertaking activities to secure new work, including developing proposals for complex opportunities, delivering strategic level bids and framework opportunities, and undertaking business development opportunities.
7. Leading on and contributing to the development of innovative techniques to shape the way we do our business whether through Digital EIA, Technical Excellence, Future Ready EIA etc.
8. Driving performance improvement and career advancement opportunities across team.
9. Promoting and building team culture and being identified as a ‘go to’ person within the wider team, supporting others in problem solving and achieving team and business goals.
10. Promoting an inclusive workplace, demonstrating an understanding of Health and Safety whilst living the values of our health, safety, and wellbeing culture.
11. Undertaking actions that contribute towards the success of the WSP business strategy, whilst being self-motivated towards goals relevant to the role, team, and your projects.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
1. A relevant environmental degree level qualification in EIA, or similar
2. Achieved Chartered Environmental Status and Full membership of IEMA, or similar qualification with a relevant professional body
3. Excellent knowledge and understanding of EIA processes and relevant UK legislation is essential, as is a good understanding of a range of technical environmental disciplines.
4. Demonstrable post-qualified experience of leading environmental assessments on a variety of projects, including large scale infrastructure projects, and across different development sectors, such as rail, energy, housing, highways
5. Comprehensive project management skills, including commercial and risk aspects, forecasting, and quality assurance
6. Experience in work winning and bid preparation activities
7. Confident in liaising with cross discipline teams, clients, and with external bodies and organisations
8. Demonstrable client care skills in securing new work in addition to existing client retention
9. A strong network within your industry with clients, statutory consultees etc.
10. First rate verbal and written communication skills including report writing with an attention to detail
11. Demonstrable experience of promoting a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture
