The University of Nottingham leads an established Public Health Intervention Responsive Studies Team, Lincoln, Loughborough Nottingham (PHIRST-LIGHT), funded by the NIHR until February 2027. Applications are invited for the position of Senior Research Fellow (maternity cover) to join the PHIRST-LIGHT team, led by Professor Elizabeth Orton, to lead on the evaluation of a wide range of public health schemes/programmes that are happening in local government across the UK.
The purpose of this role will be to lead and deliver individual and collaborative research for a range of evaluations allocated to PHIRST-LIGHT by the NIHR. Using your experience of public health research with local government, you will work with researchers at the collaborating universities to plan and conduct work using a range of approaches, methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of evaluations, and will be responsible for dissemination activity, including writing up work for publication. You will be responsible for generating new intellectual understanding/knowledge through the application of knowledge and for developing ideas for application of research outcomes. You will sustain and pursue a strategic research plan with PHIRST-LIGHT, and will develop new concepts and ideas.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing members of the research team and supporting project management between the research sites. They will facilitate team building, leading weekly meetings and strengthening connections between sites. They will also promote the work of the PHIRST programme as a whole via various means including presentations.
Based at the University of Nottingham University Park Campus, this is a fixed term, part-time (0.6FTE / 21.75 hours) maternity cover post until 12 March 2026 (with the possibility to extend). We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role.
