We are leaders in Major Laparoscopic Surgery & Robotic Surgery with the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit, an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching innovative laparoscopic techniques. Specialties include Colorectal, Urology, Gynae Oncology, Hepatobiliary, Upper GI, Breast Surgery, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics, Major Head and Neck, ENT, Trauma & Orthopaedics, CEPOD. We are the regional referral centre for Upper GI work, including emergency cases. Day Surgery covers ENT, Maxillofacial, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Urology, Pain and dedicated paediatric lists.
Main duties
* Provide skilled assistance to the anaesthetist or surgeon, or work in the post-anaesthetic care unit as required.
* Work cohesively with all members of the multidisciplinary theatre team to ensure high-quality, individualised patient care.
* Participate in training, support and induction of students, preceptees, return-to-practice candidates and new staff in theatres.
* Hold the priority bleep and undertake the role as a member of the priority/trauma team.
* Participate in the third-tier on-call rota.

Person Specification (Essential / Desirable)
* Essential: City and Guilds 752 / NVQ Level 3 / Dip HE in Operating Department Practice; Anaesthetic Nurses ENB 182 or equivalent; HCPC or NMC registration
* Demonstrable knowledge of perioperative practice, relevant guidelines (AAGBI, NICE, DAS); knowledge of anatomy and physiology; pharmacology in perioperative care
* Communication skills, ability to develop individualised perioperative care plans; ability to work autonomously and within policy; leadership and prioritisation to direct others; ability to escalate issues calmly
* Desirable: CPD evidence; understanding of current healthcare policy and regulatory context; IT skills
