Interim Senior Building Control Surveyor – Up to £700/day – High-Risk Buildings
North East England | Hybrid / Remote
Up to £700 per day | Long-term contract | Inside IR35
Let’s address the obvious first.
Opportunities in Building Control paying up to £700 per day are extremely limited.
If you’re currently in a Local Authority or Approved Inspector role and working on complex schemes, there is a strong chance you are undervalued commercially.
This role offers the chance to step into a major national building safety programme, working on high-risk, high-profile developments with a significantly improved earning potential.
The opportunity
Joshua Robert is supporting a government-backed regulatory function delivering a large-scale programme focused on the assessment of Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs) across England.
You’ll be joining a multi-disciplinary technical team, contributing to key decisions on complex high-rise residential and mixed-use developments at design stage.
This is not traditional building control.
👉 Less routine inspections
👉 More technical input
👉 Greater influence on outcomes
👉 Significantly stronger day rate
What you’ll be doing
* Reviewing building control submissions for new build high-rise and complex developments
* Assessing compliance with current building regulations
* Providing clear, structured technical advice to support regulatory decisions
* Working within multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) alongside fire, structural and technical specialists
* Identifying risks, non-compliance and gaps within submissions
* Supporting consistent, high-quality decision making through peer review
Why this role stands out
* Up to £700 per day – top end of the current market
* Long-term programme with strong pipeline of work
* Flexible, UK-wide delivery model with regional travel only when required
* Exposure to complex, high-value schemes
* Opportunity to move away from purely inspection-led work into something more strategic and technical
About you
* Background in Building Control (Local Authority, Approved Inspector or RBI)
* Experience working on complex, multi-storey or high-rise developments
* Strong understanding of building regulations and compliance
* Ability to interpret technical information and provide clear, confident advice
* Comfortable working within collaborative, multi-disciplinary environments
👉 Class 2 registration is advantageous, but not essential for the right level of experience.
Why people are making this move
We’re speaking to a lot of Building Control professionals right now who are:
* Delivering complex work without being rewarded financially
* Looking for more variety and technical challenge
* Frustrated with traditional structures and workloads
This role addresses all three.
