An exciting opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer to join a growing team at Lateral Naval Architects. The Structural Engineer is responsible for providing a skilled contribution to the design work for assigned projects within the company and maintaining the technical requirements and the standard of deliverables required within the discipline. Using their experience to provide support and guidance to colleagues across all disciplines and where appropriate for the coordination and technical supervision of colleagues working within their discipline on a project by project basis. Taking on an active coordination role when required, overseeing a team of engineers and design engineers for assigned projects, whilst also maintaining the primary role. Supporting and developing new ideas, designs and ways of working as part of the company’s ongoing investment in R&D and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities & tasks overview
1. Responsible for engineering design calculations for specific projects.
2. Ensuring that classification society and/or national authority standards named in the specification for an assigned project are met.
3. Actively manages the quality of project work produced, the appropriate level of detail, the adequate checking prior to release, and the completion of assigned tasks in a timely and transparent manner.
4. Liaises with the customer or their representatives, subcontractors & suppliers where appropriate, and with classification societies & national authorities, to ensure that relevant information is available, and queries are answered in a timely fashion.
5. Responsible for managing their own workload across multiple projects, following the priorities set and proposing solutions for any conflicting time requirements in coordination with their Discipline Lead.
6. Responsible for the review of project work to identify potential areas of technical risk and discuss these with the Technical Project Manager.
About you
1. Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in the marine industry.
2. Self-motivation, time planning & management skills to meet agreed targets and deliverables deadlines, including feedback to support in the definition of resource requirements.
3. Proven ability to process technical problems and effectively seek out the correct technical solution using sound engineering judgement.
4. The ability to produce clear and well-presented drawings, plans and technical reports to a suitable quality and standard.
5. Commercial awareness, with the ability to ensure that works are being carried out and completed to an appropriate standard and level of detail, measured against the contracted deliverables and tracked against the agreed budget.
