A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technician to join our Community Health Service pharmacy team at Central & North West London NHS Foundation Trust based at St Pancras Hospital, Camden.

The post offers an excellent opportunity to utilise your clinical and professional knowledge and skills in both rehabilitation and elderly care healthcare services, working closely with the multi-disciplinary team in an inpatient setting.

We are looking for a highly organised and proactive pharmacy technician with excellent communication and leadership skills. Experience in medicines reconciliation, clinical pharmacy services and multi-disciplinary working is desirable. Main duties of the job

You will need to demonstrate a person-centred approach and have effective interpersonal and organisational skills. Previous NHS Hospital pharmacy experience, including elderly care, would be desirable.

You will be responsible to promote a high-quality approach to the reconciliation of medicines of patients admitted by effective communication with hospital teams, patients/carers, colleagues in primary and social care.

You will support the preparation of discharge medication in timely and efficient manner and ensure patients/carers receive the appropriate counselling. To also communicate discharge information to GPs, community pharmacies and participate in the Discharge Medication Service.

You will pro-actively support nursing and therapy staff in planning and providing care in relation to medicines management.

Additionally, you must be able to organise your workload and uphold standards of pharmacy practice, referring and reporting concerns when appropriate.

General medicines management skills are necessary for this role; stock management, ordering of patient medications, reducing drug cost and wastage and maintaining secure, safe environments.

You will also be expected to participate in the weekend and bank holiday rota, following a period of induction and training.

Education And Qualifications

Essential criteria


* Completion of a GPhC-approved Pharmacy Technician qualification (QCF 3 or higher)
* Currently registered as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Completion of a recognised practice supervisor or educational supervisor training programme
* (If qualified before 2020) Completion of a recognised ‘final accuracy checking programme’ (If qualified before 2020) Completion of a recognised ‘medicines optimisation’ training programme

Desirable criteria

* Completion of an entry-level Leadership course/training programme
* Currently a member of APTUK (Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK)
* Completion of an advanced practice or advanced clinical medicines optimisation qualification

Previous Experience

Essential criteria

* Education and training of pharmacy staff & multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of supporting patients with their medicines Developing Standard Operating procedures.
* Portfolio demonstrating competency of previous and current pharmacy practice skills, knowledge, and CPD.
* Medicines reconciliation on an inpatient wards
* Supporting compliance with safe & secure handling of medicines on inpatient units

* Supervisory/management of staff
* Experience working within rehabilitation wards
