Job Title: Software Engineer/Observability Engineer
Contract Type: Permanent
Location: Alderley Edge / Edinburgh
Working style: Hybrid 50% home/office based
Closing date: 23rd Feb 2026
We are looking for a passionate and curious Observability Engineer to join our growing Operational Tooling team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone early in their career who wants to learn how modern digital platforms are monitored, measured, and improved through data‑driven insight.
As an Observability Engineer, you will help ensure our applications and infrastructure are reliable, high‑performing, and transparent. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers supporting key observability platforms—such as log analytics, dashboards, metrics, and tracing tools—to keep our services healthy and proactively detect issues before they impact customers.
What You’ll Do
* Support the operation and enhancement of our observability stack (e.g., log aggregation, metrics, dashboards, distributed tracing).
* Assist in configuring and maintaining tools such as Splunk, LogicMonitor, AppDynamics and other similar technologies.
* Help monitor service health and detect performance bottlenecks across applications, APIs, and cloud infrastructure.
* Contribute to incident investigations by analysing telemetry data (logs, metrics, traces, events).
* Build and maintain dashboards that give teams clear visibility into service performance.
* Work closely with platform and application teams to improve our monitoring coverage and observability maturity.
About You
This is an entry-level position and no prior experience in Observability is required.
* Has a genuine interest in monitoring, reliability engineering, or cloud technologies.
* Enjoys solving problems with data and investigating how systems behave.
* Is eager to build skills across logs, metrics, traces, and event‑driven monitoring.
* Communicates clearly and works well with others.
* Brings curiosity, initiative, and a continuous‑learning mindset.
What You’ll Gain
* Hands‑on experience with industry‑leading observability tools used across the organisation.
* Exposure to real engineering challenges across modern digital platforms.
* Mentorship from senior engineers who specialise in reliability and platform operations.
* Opportunities to contribute to automation, service intelligence, and platform improvements.
* A clear development path toward mid‑level observability, SRE, or platform engineering roles.
Why Join Us?
You'll be part of a team that plays a critical role in ensuring our technology ecosystem is resilient and our customers receive a seamless digital experience. Observability is at the heart of how modern engineering teams understand, optimise, and evolve their systems—and you’ll be joining at the perfect moment to grow as the discipline expands.
