About the Role

The Preventative Adaptations (PAD) scheme, delivered within the Adaptations and Renewals Agency, provides essential minor adaptations that enable older citizens to remain independent and reduce the risk of falls. These interventions prevent avoidable hospital admissions, increases in home care packages and admissions to residential care. The service is available to all city residents aged 60 and over, across all housing tenures.

Following a risk assessment in the citizen's home, PAD Operatives carry out installation works within occupied residential properties. The role requires a high standard of practical joinery skills, strong organisation, and the ability to work independently while delivering a sensitive, customer focused service.

You will install a range of preventative adaptations, including:

* Grab rails to baths, showers, walls and entrance doors
* Additional stair rails
* Chair raisers and minor joinery adaptations
* Replacing a high step to front or rear entrance door with shallow steps
* Threshold strips and minor access adaptations

In addition to on-site work in residents' homes, you will also be required to work within a workshop environment. This includes the manufacture and preparation of handrails and other components using cutting and shaping equipment, maintaining stock levels, and ensuring materials are prepared safely and efficiently. You will be expected to maintain a safe working environment at all times, adhering to health and safety procedures, and to work collaboratively alongside other operatives and team members where required.

The role involves driving a Council van to and from jobs across the city, managing tools and materials, managing a caseload and planning efficient daily routes.

These low-cost, high-impact interventions directly support the Council's priorities around prevention, independent living, and reducing pressure on health and social care services. In this role, you will make a tangible difference to people's lives every day.
