The Cherwell Hospital is currently looking to recruit an exceptional Pre-Assessment Nurse to provide specialist nursing expertise, facilitating evidence-based, patient-centered care and assessment for a defined caseload of pre-assessment patients.
Responsibilities include:
1. Working both independently and collaboratively with a team of nurses and healthcare assistants to coordinate patients throughout their pre-assessment pathway, with significant input into their management and care prior to admission for specified procedures.
2. Acting as a resource and providing education for patients and healthcare personnel, as well as directing the pre-assessment nursing team.
3. Carrying out relevant care activities without direct supervision, working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
4. Supporting all staff within the Outpatient department, including nursing students and visiting healthcare professionals.
5. Participating in teaching and mentoring junior staff and students.
6. Suggesting improvements in care provision, challenging poor practices, and raising concerns when appropriate.
7. Reflecting the nursing philosophy of care in practice for pre-operative assessments.
8. Providing high-standard nursing care to outpatient attendees within policies and procedures.
9. Acting as a liaison with the multidisciplinary team, contributing to meetings such as the Anesthetic Meeting / Complex MDT, including escalating complex cases and planning care.
10. Communicating sensitive, complex information effectively with the healthcare team and patients, including overcoming barriers to understanding.
11. Providing information to patients to support informed consent, using specialist knowledge.
12. Establishing partnerships with patients and carers, often in distressing circumstances.
13. Communicating complex information with healthcare personnel, advocating for patients, and ensuring dignity and privacy (NMC standards).
14. Engaging in health promotion activities using information leaflets and networking within the Trust.
15. Reflecting critically on personal performance through supervision and learning opportunities.
Essential qualifications and experience:
* Current NMC registration
* Minimum 6 months paid experience as a Pre-op Assessment Nurse within the past 3 years in an NHS or private hospital
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
* Flexible, positive, and empathetic attitude
