A new and exciting opportunity has arisen at LTHTR. We are centralising our pre-operative assessment unit to provide an excellent service in pre-operative assessment for all specialities.

You will be acting as an expert clinical resource within Pre op assessment department and take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of the Senior Sister as well as assisting in the leadership and development of all theatre staff.
You must be either a registered General Nurse with Pre op assessment experience or an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) in order to lead our enthusiastic team
We are the Regional Major Trauma centre, with 17 theatres at Royal Preston hospital and 13 theatres at Chorley Hospital.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to have extensive experience in Pre op assessment and have a drive and enthusiasm for change and take forward new ideas. Applicants must have excellent communication, influencing and leadership skills and thrive in a busy team environment. You will be encouraged and supported to further develop using the educational and experiential learning opportunities available.
In this role you will be responsible for the day to day running of our assessment clinics and also be required to coordinate the elective service provision by working collaboratively with anaesthetists, clinicians, and the wards in providing effective management of elective patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Assist and support the Senior Nurse in the safe and effective management of the service including management of staff, facilities and associated systems and processes.
Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care.

Qualifications and education
Essential criteria
1. Appropriate NMC or HCPC registration
2. Qualified Nurse or Qualified ODP
3. Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards following 12 months commencement in post.
4. Evidence of current and continuing professional development
5. Experience in preoperative assessment field
Desirable criteria
6. Level 3 ILM (Institute of leadership and Management) or equivalent.
7. evidence of leadership /management experience
8. Degree in related health care area
9. Core people management skill
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
10. Awareness of changes in practice and the ability to implement change.
11. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
12. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
