Outdoor Education Teacher/Lead

(Teacher / Lead – No QTS Required)
Specialist Secondary School (Boys – SEMH)

Salary: H7 Scale – £32,763–£35,299 FTE
Additional Allowance: Approx. £1,200 per annum (Duke of Edinburgh Award coordination)
Actual Salary: £24,237–£26,113 per annum (pro rata) + allowance
Contract: Full-time, term time
Start Date: September 2026

We are seeking an experienced, motivated and dynamic Outdoor Education Lead to take responsibility for the delivery and development of Outdoor Learning and Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) provision within a specialist secondary school for boys with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong outdoor education or youth leadership experience who is confident working independently and leading programmes — QTS is not required.

The Role

As Outdoor Education Lead, you will:

* Lead and coordinate the school’s Outdoor Education curriculum

* Deliver and oversee Duke of Edinburgh Award programmes, including:

* Skills, physical activity and expedition elements

* Planning, delivery and assessment of activities

* Take responsibility for off‑site visits, expeditions and outdoor learning experiences

* Work directly with pupils, both individually and in small groups

* Promote confidence, resilience, teamwork and emotional regulation through outdoor learning

* Act as a key role model and trusted adult for pupils

* Contribute to a well‑established Work Related Learning and Vocational Curriculum

* Liaise with staff and external providers to ensure safe and high‑quality delivery

The Ideal Candidate Will:

* Have experience in outdoor education, DofE delivery, youth work or adventure learning

* Be confident leading activities and managing groups in off‑site and outdoor environments

* Have experience working with young people with SEMH or behavioural needs (desirable but not essential)

* Be organised, proactive and confident working independently

* Have a calm, resilient and relationship‑focused approach

* Be committed to safeguarding, inclusion and professional development
