Are you interested in a hands‑on role operating, maintaining and troubleshooting the critical electrical and mechanical equipment that powers our data centres? Join our AWS infrastructure services team as a Data Centre Engineering Operations (DCEO) Apprentice. A data centre is a specialised facility filled with thousands of computers, servers, and networking equipment that store and process vast amounts of data. Our DCEO team ensures the critical power, cooling and infrastructure systems operate reliably 24/7.

Key Responsibilities
* Take part in the day‑to‑day operations of data centre electrical systems
* Carry out routine maintenance checks on critical power equipment
* Monitor and operate electrical distribution systems safely and efficiently
* Support emergency response procedures when required
* Learn to operate and interpret Building‑Management Systems (BMS) to monitor facility performance
* Assist in conducting equipment testing and maintenance activities
* Help maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities
* Support the inspection and testing of emergency power systems
* Develop an understanding of cooling systems and their link to power infrastructure
* Apply problem‑solving skills to troubleshoot electrical systems with support from experienced engineers
Technical Development
* Operating and maintaining UPS systems, generators, and switchgear
* Following safety protocols and procedures
* Using monitoring systems and tools
* Understanding power distribution in a data centre environment
* Responding to alarms and alerts
* Basic fault finding and problem resolution
* Recording and reporting maintenance activities
Qualifications
We are seeking individuals who possess a strong technical aptitude, excellent analytical skills, and a keen attention to detail. A proactive approach to problem‑solving, effective communication abilities, and a commitment to continuous learning are essential.
Basic Qualifications
* Be 18 years or older before the start date (September 2026)
* Be a UK national and be able to obtain UK Government Security Clearance.
* Have the right to live and work in England (including visa status)
* Have lived in the UK or EEA for the last 3 years and be a resident for the entire duration of the program
* Not be registered to study on a UK government-funded course ending August 2026 or later
* Have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4-9 (A-C) or above, including Maths and English
* Have an A-Level in STEM (must include Mathematics grade C or above) or BTEC Diploma in a STEM subject or Level 3 IT apprenticeship AND pass a level 3 maths qualification
* Be willing to travel to Chester for two days per month as part of training
* Provide a Statement of Comparability for non‑UK qualifications (via UK ENIC)
* This apprenticeship assumes the candidate has some or little knowledge of the occupation
* Must not already have a qualification in a similar subject at the same or higher level than this apprenticeship

Throughout your apprenticeship you will learn how to analyse and fix power system issues and gain a wide range of useful experiences and skills. You will work towards the Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard – Electrical Power Protection and Plant Commissioning Engineer. The program runs for 36 months starting in September, consisting of classroom/virtual training, on‑site training and mentoring.
