About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Privacy Officer to ensure ongoing compliance with UK and international data protection laws. This role involves maintaining the organisation’s Privacy Information Management System, conducting privacy risk assessments, and supporting the implementation of data protection initiatives. You’ll work closely with the Group Privacy Officer and a network of Data Protection Coordinators to ensure policies, standards, and guidelines are effectively communicated and upheld across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include performing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), managing privacy incidents, coordinating responses to data subject rights requests, and supporting the rollout of privacy management software. Acting as a business partner to assigned divisions, you’ll also contribute to awareness campaigns and training, helping embed a strong culture of data protection throughout OUP. We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
Essential:
1. Knowledge and understanding of data privacy laws, regulations and standards globally with a strong emphasis on the UK and Europe
2. Knowledge of business process documentation, developing data protection compliance policies and defining best practice
3. Ability to work with a range of business stakeholders at all levels to understand and articulate their activities in line with defined standards
4. Good verbal and written communication skills in English
5. Professional data privacy certifications (e.g. CIPP/E)
Desirable:
6. Experience working with process analysis and documentation in a privacy programme or project environment
7. Experience of establishing an effective data privacy programme in a complex geographical / functional matrix organization
8. Demonstrable experience of investigating data breaches and advising the business on privacy improvement and impact mitigation
