My client specialises in the civil and structural design of electricity substations. They are involved in projects ranging from new build to modifications of existing sites from concept to completion. They also produce design and detailing works for various sectors, including steel framed structures, foundations, infrastructure, and water treatment. Our wide range of clients ensures a consistent workload on a variety of interesting projects.
They are currently looking to grow the team by employing an Engineering Manager to lead a talented team of engineers and drive success across various projects. This role will be the technical lead focused on delivering projects on time and to budget while maintaining high standards, improving efficiencies, and developing design standards.
The successful candidate will oversee project delivery within the design team, manage the team and department, develop and implement design standards, mentor and grow a dynamic team, and contribute to business development and recruitment.
Key Responsibilities for This Engineering Manager Role
* Project Delivery: Ensure the successful and timely delivery of projects; oversee project phases from start to finish, ensuring quality standards are met; act as independent checker of design submissions.
* Team Development: Lead, mentor, and support a growing team of design engineers; provide technical guidance; support the professional development of team members.
* Design Standards: Create, implement, and maintain a suite of comprehensive design standards to ensure consistency and excellence across all projects.
* Business Development and Quotes: Prepare quotations, technical proposals, and presentations; enhance business development efforts by identifying new opportunities and building client relationships.
* Department Growth: Drive the technical, professional, and operational growth of the engineering team; actively contribute to recruitment and onboarding of new team members; produce and execute departmental plan to progress the engineering team and the business.

Requirements for This Engineering Manager Role
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
* Chartered Engineer MICE or MStructE.
* Proven experience as a Design Engineer, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management position.
* Strong knowledge of design principles, methodologies, and industry standards.
* Experience with project management, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Ability to mentor and motivate a team of engineers to achieve high performance and professional growth.
* Experience in business development, including preparing quotes, proposals, and managing client relationships.
* Knowledge of design standards.
Desirable Skills
* Expertise in Substation design.
* Background in Civil or Structural Design.
* Knowledge of National Grid Technical Standards and Procedures.
