Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Metallic Machinist (Turner) to join our Machine Shop at Williams Racing. In this role, you will produce complex components for our Race Car, including jigs and fixtures, using DMG Mori NLX Lathes. The department aims to produce key parts efficiently, cost-effectively, and to high standards, meeting tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Produce high-quality components efficiently to support the development and production of Formula One race cars and external clients.
2. Ensure components are manufactured in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, minimizing lead times.
3. Collaborate with Toolpath Programming (TPP) to resolve machining issues and improve quality or runtime.
4. Work proactively with fellow machinists and other departments to establish and utilize best practices.
5. Perform inspections during machining to verify first-off parts and ensure batch consistency.
6. Accurately record shop floor data using Data Collection Software as required.
7. Maintain thorough and accurate communication during shift handovers to ensure continuous production.
8. Document all job-related information clearly to facilitate future demand planning.
9. Suggest ideas for more efficient or effective production processes to supervisors or team leaders.
Candidate Requirements
1. Knowledge of manufacturing metallic and non-metallic components, including aircraft-grade metals and high-quality plastics.
2. Strong experience setting and operating Fanuc-controlled Lathes/Turn-Mill machines.
3. Manual and/or conversational programming skills are advantageous.
4. Ability to manage multiple machines and plan ahead.
5. Relevant apprenticeship or experience in a precision engineering environment.
6. Proven machining knowledge in CNC and manual operations within a low-volume, high-accuracy, fast-paced environment.
7. Ability to work independently with pride and attention to detail.
8. Flexibility, self-motivation, teamwork, and initiative are essential.
9. Commitment to continuous improvement and willingness to work extended hours occasionally.
Work Schedule
This role is on a night shift, Monday to Thursday, from 18:15 to 04:45.
