An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse to join the band 6 team in Oncology Same Day Emergency Care as a Deputy Ward Manager. Oncology Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) is an assessment area for patients under oncology who have become unwell as a result of their disease or treatment. Patients are referred to SDEC and as the band 6 in charge you will discuss over the phone if they are suitable to attend. SDEC also sees patients under Haematology and Renal for nurse led procedures/infusions/transfusions. Patients may require admission from SDEC to the Specialist Receiving Unit and appropriate escalation will be required.
SDEC is looking for an experienced Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager to join the team. Relevant experience required.
Main duties
* Act as a deputy to the Ward Manager and be required to regularly take charge of the unit.
* Hold the referral phone throughout the shift.
* Ensure members of the team are delivering high quality care.
* Answer datixs.
* Be an effective leader/role model.
* Provide direct clinical care and support junior team members; take on band 6 management responsibilities.
Person Specification
Essential
* NMC registered
* Mentor qualification
* IV Competent
* Experience: Minimum 2 years post registration; ability to convey sensitive information; experience in coordinating an area as nurse in charge; prioritise patient care and work with a multidisciplinary team
* Communication: Written/Verbal skills; effective communication on the phone; manage complex situations on the phone; IT skills
* Planning: Prioritise workload
Desirable
* Leadership/management training
* Cannulation
* Venepuncture
* PICC trained
* Oncology admission pathway knowledge; Band 6 experience; Audit experience
* Team working
* Understand Oncology SDEC
Other requirements
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks are required; post subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
* UK Registration: Applicants must have current UK professional registration.
