Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Thepost holder will be required to record and monitor attendance (in line with DfErequirements) and support the school strategy by working alongside other staffwithin the schools to reduceoverall and persistent absence.
Routinelymonitor the attendance of vulnerable students and students who are known to bepoor attenders.
Investigateabsence (regular medical absence and unexplained absence) and developinitiatives in partnership with School staff to encourage and promote regularattendance.
Berobust in the investigation and management of absences/holidays during termtime and investigate reasons for absence which may be unclear.
Allocate‘catch up’ time to students whose absence rate falls below the schools’threshold.
Workwith other agencies to provide appropriate services for children and youngpeople, including making referrals to social services, educationalpsychologists, the Connexions service etc. Whererelevant.
Workingwith families, establish appropriate and effective communication channels forthe overall improvement of student attendance.
Whereappropriate, to gather supporting evidence to recommend legal proceedings incases of irregular Academy attendance, to prepare reports and to give evidencein Court.
Whenrequired, prepare reports for Senior Leadership Team, and represent the schoolsas required.
Becomethe liaison for those students who cannot attend school regularly to enablethem to receive an adequate education via homework provision or other off siteeducation provision.
Interpretdata to inform the implementation of new strategies to assist the schools indealing with absence.
Prioritiseand manage a caseload, which will include complex cases involving disadvantagedstudents and those young people who are not accessing regulareducation.
Havean understanding of the support groups, activitygroups and youth groups that students or parents/carers can be referred to forsupplementary support.
Developa close liaison with relevant local authorities to maximise professionalworking relationships, both in terms of advice and support for theschools.
Maintainthorough case notes, issue letters to parents and, if required support theSenior Leadership Team in preparing court reports.
