As we continue to grow and improve, we are excited to announce that we are looking for registered Mental Health Nurses (RMN) to join our team at Charlton Lane Hospital. Charlton Lane is an Acute Mental Health Hospital for older age patients situated in Cheltenham, and it provides inpatient services to the population of Gloucestershire. It offers a vital service in supporting and rehabilitating those suffering from mild to severe mental health problems. All wards are serviced by an enthusiastic, multi‑professional team of people, including Doctors, Nurses and Allied Healthcare Professionals who are supported by Ward Secretaries and Hotel Services Staff. Mulberry Ward is a busy 18 bedded mixed gender acute admission ward.
We are seeking highly motivated and committed Band 5 Staff Nurses to complement our current multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate for this post would be an RMN seeking an opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives, with excellent communication skills and a passion for helping those experiencing an acute mental health concern.

In return for your commitment we will provide the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive induction and Mental Health Nurse development programme (including a comprehensive Preceptorship Programme for newly registered nurses) which ensures that you feel fully supported with the right tools to undertake this challenging, but rewarding job. We will provide you with access to Post Registration training courses to help staff meet both your own identified continued professional development needs and the developing needs of this service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We provide a Multi-professional preceptorship programme that is aligned to the National Preceptorship Framework for Nursing and have been awarded the Interim quality mark from NHS England. Our programme is provided to all Newly Qualified; Nurses, Nursing Associates, Internationally Educated Practitioners, Allied Health Professionals and Return to Practice Practitioners. In addition to the programme we also offer all preceptees the opportunity of enrolling and completing the level 7 (Masters) 15 credit validated module “Preceptorship for Healthcare” (AP7026).

* Evidence of continued professional development
* Evidence of formal post registration learning
Length and/or nature of experience
* Experience of working within an In‑Patient or residential setting
* Working knowledge of Early Intervention, Primary Care, Recovery, Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment (CRHT) approach
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook
* Experience in the provision of Crisis Resolution Home Treatment
* Experience of collaboration working with other agencies including the voluntary sector
Professional / Managerial / Specialist knowledge
* Knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act & legal aspects of Mental Health care
* Demonstrable skills in risk assessment and management
* An understanding of national policy in relation to mental health
* Knowledge of the different approaches to mental health assessment
* Up to date clinical knowledge including risk assessment, dual diagnosis and health and social care needs
* Knowledge of child care / protection issues
* Ability to work on social factors affecting mental distress e.g. accommodation, substance misuse, domestic violence, welfare rights
