Job overview
Assist pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in the provision of a broad range of pharmacy technical services across the Trust, working independently and referring to a qualified Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist when necessary.

Carry out the labelling & dispensing of medicines under the supervision of a pharmacy technician or pharmacist to patients.
Maintain effective communication and organisational skills, flexibility and ability to work well under pressure.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Controlled Drug dispensing
* Recycling and returning medicines no longer needed.
* Receive prescriptions, label and dispense routine items for inpatients and outpatients, seeking advice where appropriate.
* Dispense and self-check medications both manually and with a computerised automated dispensing system, using bar code technology and scanners.
* Dispense non routine medicines (e.g., complex prescriptions) under the supervision of a pharmacy technician or pharmacist.
* Operate within local standard operating procedures relevant to the area of work.
* Work at reception providing hatch and associated duties, entering details onto the pharmacy tracker system.
* Carry out filing, photocopying and scanning paperwork when required.
* Fill bottles, bags and sundry items, ensuring availability at all times.
* Answer the telephone, handling routine enquiries and referring non-routine matters to the specified personnel.
* Store stock in correct shelf locations, ensuring appropriate stock rotation measures are in place.
* Check expiry dates and undertake stock rotation in individual responsibility areas.
* Recycle, return and destroy unwanted medicines following SOP under supervision of a technician.
* Dispense and record details according to written protocols for unlicensed and named patient medicines.
* Dispense controlled drugs held as stock on wards and complete necessary legal documentation.
* Participate in any education and training programmes.
* Assist in ensuring a high-quality pharmacy service is maintained.
Person specification
All applicants must have good communication and organisational skills, be flexible and able to work under pressure.
NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
* Achieved with a pass.
* Good understanding of Excel programs and ability to use a calculator.
Four GCSE's including Maths, English and a Science Subject
* Achieved grades with a pass and show evidence (certificates).
* Able to work with computers.
* Up to date knowledge and understanding of safe systems of working in pharmacy.
Able to meet deadlines

Other requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and will be required to submit a Disclosure and Barring Service check pursuant to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, etc.
