Job Title: Coffee Engineer Reports To: Facilities Manager Location: Field base Contract Type: Full-time Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday – Sunday Salary Range: £40,000 Job Purpose The Coffee Engineer is responsible for maintaining, servicing, and optimising coffee brewing and production equipment, ensuring exceptional product quality, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency. The role includes technical support, quality assurance, staff training, and continuous improvement across all relevant sites. Knowledge of La Cimbali, WMF, and Franke machines is essential. Key Responsibilities Equipment Management & Maintenance Install, service, and repair coffee machines and brewing equipment, including La Cimbali, WMF, and Franke. Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance and respond to equipment breakdowns. Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults. Maintain accurate service logs and technical documentation. Manage spare parts and on-hand stock levels. Quality Assurance Ensure all coffee output meets company quality and consistency standards. Perform calibration, extraction testing, and quality checks. Collaborate with roasters and barista teams to optimise extraction and brew profiles. Process Improvement & Troubleshooting Identify opportunities for equipment performance improvements and workflow efficiency. Conduct root cause analysis on recurring technical issues. Support continuous improvement initiatives across production and retail sites. Training & Support Train staff on machine operation, cleaning procedures, and basic troubleshooting. Provide onboarding support for new team members. Act as a technical resource for retail and operations teams. Health, Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and food safety standards. Follow regulatory requirements and internal procedures. Promote and maintain safe working practices across all sites. Person Specification Skills & Competencies Strong mechanical and electrical technical aptitude. Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills. Clear communication and strong customer-service mindset. Ability to work independently and manage a multi-site workload. Confidence delivering training to non-technical staff. Experience Proven experience servicing or maintaining commercial coffee equipment (bean-to-cup, espresso, grinders, brewers). Experience with La Cimbali, WMF, and Franke machines is required. Background in engineering, manufacturing, or field-service roles. Qualifications Technical or engineering qualification (desirable). Knowledge of single-phase and three-phase electrical systems. PSSR training (advantageous). Food Safety certification (advantageous). Full UK driving licence (if field-based). Working Conditions Field-based or production environment. May require early mornings, weekends, or flexible hours (40 hours/week, Monday–Sunday). Travel between sites may be required.
