Position Overview: The Head of Sociology & Psychology will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and management of the Sociology & Psychology departments. This role involves overseeing the highest standards of pupil achievement, leading and developing teaching practices, and ensuring effective provision for students. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Main Duties: The main duties of the Head of Sociology & Psychology include, but are not limited to:
* Being accountable for the highest standards of pupil achievement within the Sociology & Psychology areas, including monitoring and evaluation of pupil achievement and setting improvement targets.
* Leading, developing, and enhancing the teaching practice of all teachers within the specified areas, while evaluating the quality of teaching and support.
* Providing strategic direction, leadership, and management of the Sociology & Psychology departments, including the development and implementation of departmental policies, plans, and targets.
* Effectively line managing Teachers of Sociology & Psychology and collaborating with the Head of Learning Area Humanities.
* Leading the provision of Sociology & Psychology post-16 education and ensuring clear and high expectations of student progress and behavior.
* Playing a full part in the school community, supporting its mission and ethos, participating in policy-making groups, and promoting the inclusion of children with special educational needs (SEN).
Qualifications and Experience:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and relevant academic qualifications in Sociology and/or Psychology.
* Significant experience teaching Sociology and/or Psychology at the secondary level.
* Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably in a school setting.
* Strong understanding of educational policies, practices, and procedures.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
* Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire colleagues to achieve excellence.
* Commitment to promoting the Catholic ethos and values of the school.
