Specialist Radiographer – Interventional Radiology & Cardiac Cath Lab

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (MKUH) invites applications for a Specialist Radiographer within its Interventional Suite and Cardiac Cath Lab. The successful candidate will develop their career, contribute their skills, and deliver high‑quality, responsive diagnostic and therapeutic service in line with Trust core values.

Responsibilities

* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver excellent patient care.
* Maintain high clinical standards and share best practice with colleagues and students.
* Provide excellent communication and organisational skills, ensuring CPD, radiation protection, legislation and health & safety requirements are met.
* Deliver flexible, patient‑centred care, supporting ward and out‑of‑hours TAG services as required.
* Support role extension activities, including reporting of axial & appendicular skeleton, chest, abdominal images and exploring advanced practice within the department.


Qualifications and Knowledge

* BSc (Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent.
* Health and Care Professions Council Registration.
* Evidence of sound computer literacy (MS Teams, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel).
* Familiarity with hospital information systems (HIS), radiology information systems (RIS) and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS).
* Knowledge of a wide range of diagnostic imaging procedures.
* Knowledge of current Interventional and Cath Lab imaging techniques and practices.
* Knowledge of relevant national imaging standards (e.g., IR(ME)R 2017, IRR 2017 and associated codes of practice).
* Possession of 6‑month post‑qualification knowledge and experience as a radiographer.
* UK radiographer work experience.

* Proven ability to assess clinical situations and act appropriately.
* Previous experience of stock control.


Experience

* Minimum 18 months post‑qualification clinical experience and sound knowledge of NHS hospital protocols.
* Extensive clinical experience and knowledge of Interventional, Cath Lab and radiographic procedures.
* Experience managing contrast media reactions.
* Experience of Interventional/Cath Lab workloads in busy NHS hospital.
* Familiarity with fault finding and equipment management in a technology‑reliant workplace.
* Involvement in quality‑assurance programmes.
* Recognition of the role of other specialties in patient care.
* Detailed understanding of radiation protection, regulations and practical application.
* Previous supervisory experience.
* Experience in interventional procedures.

* Supports less experienced staff, students and attending students in training.
* Maintains continued professional development as required by HCPC.

* Ability to communicate across all ages, disabilities, and cultures.
* Support distressed patients and carers.
* Good understanding of health and safety requirements.
* Sound knowledge of data protection, freedom of information and confidentiality issues within NHS.
* Capability to work across disciplines and with varied professional groups.
* Maintains accurate, concise records on a day‑to‑day basis.
* Professional in appearance and conduct.

Salary

£39,959 to £48,117 a year, pro rata.
