Our client
Morgan Hunt is working with a specialist supported housing provider that offers housing and support to individuals experiencing homelessness across Wigan and West Lancashire. The organization aims to make a significant community impact by reducing homelessness.
This is a permanent role, working Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm, with travel across Wigan and West Lancashire to various properties required.
You will report to the Supported Housing Operations Manager and will work to assess individuals facing homelessness, identify their key needs, and assist them in moving towards independent living.
The role - Housing Support Worker
* Support and mentor people experiencing homelessness with low-level support needs across Wigan and West Lancashire, helping them develop skills to sustain a tenancy.
* Complete tailored support plans to meet individual housing and support needs, reviewing them weekly to ensure progress towards goals and outcomes.
* Build strong links with housing, health, and social care professionals, benefits, welfare, advocacy agencies, and property owners to enable clients to sustain current and future tenancies.
* Liaise with external referral agencies to assess referrals for suitability and compatibility with the service.
* Ensure all benefit documentation, including Housing Benefit, is completed and submitted within 48 hours of tenancy commencement, along with all relevant documentation.
* Work with individuals to understand their tenancy rights and responsibilities, access healthcare, education, training, employment opportunities, and develop budgeting skills to maximize income.
* Manage approximately 30 residents across various properties.
* Offer personalized support sessions, working through outcome star assessments and preparing clients for move-on to longer-term accommodation.
* Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations and partners.
The candidate
* A valid driving license and access to a car are essential.
* Experience supporting vulnerable people in a supported housing or similar role.
* Strong negotiation skills with the ability to mediate disputes effectively.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on customer service.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in record keeping.
* A commitment to promoting equality and diversity within housing services.
