The Mandeville Practice, a dynamic and growing practice in Bucks, has an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our team.

The successful candidate would uphold our values of excellent patient care and support our vision of meeting the health needs of our diverse population. Previous experience working as an HCA in an NHS GP Practice would be advantageous.

The successful candidate would work as part of an excellent administrative and multidisciplinary clinical team (including GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, and Clinical Pharmacists).

We aim to develop positive, supportive, and professional relationships with every patient, clinician, and allied professional we encounter.

We use the Emis Web clinical system.

Working hours: Minimum 37.5 hours per week.


Main duties of the job

To assist in patient care and practice-related duties as directed by and under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional. The post holder will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet patient needs, following policies and procedures.

Clinical Responsibilities

1. Work under supervision of clinicians in providing patient care.
2. Assist in Minor Surgery Clinics.
3. Run Chronic Disease Management Clinics.

Job responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

The core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant include, but are not limited to:

* Undertaking new patient and NHS health checks.
* Supporting the practice nurse with health promotion programmes.
* Carrying out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, recording findings accurately.
* Facilitating routine and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, advising patients accordingly.
* Undertaking wound care, dressings, and other clinical tasks as required.
* Supporting the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.
* Carrying out BMI checks as directed.
* Acting as a chaperone as required.
* When trained, undertaking venepuncture and administering flu vaccinations.
* When trained, carrying out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse.
* Carrying out ECGs as requested.
* Ensuring specimens are recorded and ready for transportation.
* Providing support during minor operations.
* Ensuring the clinical area is stocked and prepared for each session.
* Ensuring clinical waste is removed and sharps bins are replaced per IPC policy.
* Delivering opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.
* Supporting other tasks as directed by the lead nurse in patient care.

Secondary Responsibilities

In addition to primary responsibilities, the healthcare assistant may be requested to:

* Participate in practice audits as directed.
* Support local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care.
* Support and participate in shared learning within the practice.
* Complete opening and closing procedures as per duty rota.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths.
* Qualified to NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care.
* Literate with basic numerical skills.
* Fluent in spoken and written English.
* Ability to accurately record and relay information verbally and in writing.
* Proficient with the EMIS Web clinical system.
* Ability to work independently and organize delegated tasks.
* Experience in healthcare support, phlebotomy, and working within a practice setting.
* Knowledge of the local community and understanding of a multicultural, diverse population.
* Awareness of health and safety, confidentiality, and equal opportunities.
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Polite, helpful, enthusiastic, and flexible with working hours.
* Must have received or be willing to receive Hepatitis B and Covid vaccinations.
