Job Description
The purpose of the Graduate Engineer role is to support the wider engineering department in project and product delivery via the production of drawings, reports, and calculations. The role will be exposed to design, assurance, and analysis activities in order to gain sufficient experience to operate confidently and autonomously on completion of graduate period. Successful candidates will be eager to learn from more experienced colleague who will embed good practices at the early stages of their engineering career.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Ensure designs produced fully consider all stage of the product lifecycle (including material limitations, manufacturability, installability, operability etc). Elimination of H&S risks from designs in accordance with CDM regulations. Product Designer's Risk Assessment's for designs as required by project or product, clearly identifying mitigation measures incorporated. Prepare 3D models in Autodesk Inventor to meet project demand, as necessary. Produce 2D drawings from 3D models for customer review/ approval, and internal/ external manufacturing process, in accordance with the Engineering Handbook, and BS 8888. Prepare structural/ mechanical calculations to validate designs as required. Responsible for ensuring self-prepared drawings/ models/ documents/ calculations are correct and concise prior to release into SQEP Design checker(s). Understand the build sequence in design of all output, prior to release into production engineering. Familiarisation with product assurance and subsequent design constraints. Familiarity with Booth product families and applications. Raise issues or concerns on occasions of uncertainty; don't stay silent, learn immediately. Attend Design/ Manufacturability reviews as required. Contribute ideas for design or continuous improvements with line management for consideration/ escalation. Responsible for achieving schedule adherence for all actions assigned to individual/ role. Ensure personal objectives are completed in a timely manner, and contribute to overall departmental/ business objectives year-on-year. Submission of timesheets, sickness/ absence/ holiday requests, and 1-2-1 preparation, in accordance with company procedure. Attend shop floor as required to gain an appreciation of manufacturing techniques and limitations.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
Essential: Minimum of a bachelor's degree (Hons) in a relevant engineering field (preferably Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Controls Engineering, or Product Design). Understanding of hand and software-based calculations. Good written and communication skills; ability to write technical reports. Understanding of steel plate manufacturing principals and constraints (incl. welding). Understanding of load paths, failure modes, and operating limits of steel structures/ components. Willingness to learn and apply learnings. A focus on quality adherence and timely output. Flexibility to work overtime to achieve project plan as required. Desirable: Ability to use Autodesk 3D Inventor, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Vault unaided. An understanding of iLogic principals and constraints. Ability to programme using iLogic/ VB would be advantageous. Hold valid SC clearance, or hold the ability to obtain it.
