Consultant Psychiatrist – Defence Medical Services, Ministry of Defence Closing date: 30 June 2026
We are looking for a professional, motivated psychiatrist to join our team at Merville Barracks. The role is full time (40 hrs per week) with part‑time hours available on a job share basis. Main Duties
Provide effective, evidence‑based interventions as part of a multidisciplinary team to Service Personnel and entitled civilians, with a recovery‑oriented approach.
Maintain responsibility for patient care throughout the referral and treatment process, including liaison with other regional services.
Collaborate with patients, family members and significant others in treatment planning when appropriate.
Liaise with the inpatient Consultant Psychiatrist and attend ward rounds as required.
Utilise high‑level communication skills to understand and address patients’ personal and sensitive difficulties.
Qualifications & Memberships
Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
Member or Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (or equivalent) with completion of specialist training (CCT or CCST).
Certificate of Specialist Training or equivalent in General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry.
Other Requirements
Successful candidates must meet the security requirements (security check).
Proof of immunity to Hepatitis B is required.
All staff are subject to a 6‑month probation period (unless otherwise advised).
Access to the NHS pension scheme is available.
Salary £109,725 to £145,478 per year (pro‑rata for part time).
