Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate History Teacher to join our secondary school on a contract basis. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and academically rigorous History lessons to students aged 11-16, fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and a strong understanding of historical events and contexts.
This is a fixed-term contract position with the possibility of renewal based on performance and school requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality History lessons aligned with the national curriculum
* Teach a range of historical periods, themes, and topics
* Develop students' critical thinking, research, and essay-writing skills
* Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning needs
* Assess, record, and report on student progress
* Prepare students for internal and external examinations
* Maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
* Provide constructive and timely feedback to students
* Participate in staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school events
* Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Qualifications & Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in History, Education, or a related field
* Teaching qualification/certification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent)
* Previous secondary school teaching experience preferred
* Strong classroom management and organisational skills
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
Desirable Skills
* Experience preparing students for GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, or equivalent examinations
* Ability to teach a broad range of historical periods (e.g., modern, medieval, world history)
* Experience using digital learning tools and educational technology
* Experience working in diverse or multicultural school settings
