Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate History Teacher to join our secondary school on a contract basis. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and academically rigorous History lessons to students aged 11-16, fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and a strong understanding of historical events and contexts.
This is a fixed-term contract position with the possibility of renewal based on performance and school requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality History lessons aligned with the national curriculum
2. Teach a range of historical periods, themes, and topics
3. Develop students’ critical thinking, research, and essay-writing skills
4. Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning needs
5. Assess, record, and report on student progress
6. Prepare students for internal and external examinations
7. Maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
8. Provide constructive and timely feedback to students
9. Participate in staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school events
10. Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Qualifications & Requirements
11. Bachelor’s degree in History, Education, or a related field
12. Teaching qualification/certification (, PGCE, QTS, or equivalent)
13. Previous secondary school teaching experience preferred
14. Strong classroom management and organisational skills
15. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
16. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
Desirable Skills
17. Experience preparing students for GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, or equivalent examinations
18. Ability to teach a broad range of historical periods (, modern, medieval, world history)
19. Experience using digital learning tools and educational technology
20. Experience working in diverse or multicultural school settings
