The Opportunity
We’re looking for a qualified solicitor, or an experienced paralegal who has previously carried a caseload (or equivalent legal professional) with up to 2 years’ post-qualification experience to join our respected Court of Protection team.
This is a unique opportunity to specialise in a deeply rewarding area of law, supporting individuals who lack capacity to manage their property and financial affairs. You’ll work closely with experienced colleagues and benefit from tailored training and development
Key Responsibilities:
* Support colleagues in preparing and submitting deputyship applications to the Court of Protection.
* Assist with casework involving:
* Property and financial affairs
* Statutory wills and trusts
* Draft legal documents including witness statements, applications and correspondence.
* Liaise with clients, families, and professionals such as social workers, medical experts, and financial advisors.
* Attend client meetings (in-office or off-site) and take detailed notes.
* Maintain accurate case records using the firm’s case management system.
* Stay updated on relevant legislation and case law.
* Participate in training and development opportunities to build expertise in Court of Protection work.
Skills & Qualifications:
* Qualified solicitor, or CILEX (0–2 years PQE) or an Experienced Paralegal who has previously carried a caseload or equivalent legal experience
* Strong interest in mental capacity law and vulnerable client work
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* High level of empathy and professionalism
* Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal case management systems
Desirable:
* Previous experience in Court of Protection or Private Client work
* Or seat within private client or family law – with a view to re-training into COP
* Experience working with vulnerable individuals or in a care setting
