An exciting opportunity has arisen to join and further expand our dynamic and well-respected Acute Medicine team at Barnsley Hospital.
The successful applicant(s) will join a team of ten consultants. Each member demonstrates clinical excellence and brings additional skills, including research, teaching, education, and management. Most importantly, the team works collaboratively.
Main duties of the job
This is a substantive post supporting the expansion of services to meet activity and service demands as we move towards a 12-hour / 7-day AIM cover model. It includes daytime work on the AMU, Short Stay Unit (SSU), and Medical SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care).
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading AMUs in the region, offering exceptional support to pursue professional activities or sub-specialty interests.
Candidates unable to work full-time for personal reasons will be considered. If appointed, job content modifications will be discussed personally with the Trust and in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a Good CQC-rated hospital with a vision to move to Outstanding, joining only seven other hospitals in the country with this rating.
The current staffing includes 10 Consultants, 2 SAS doctors, 1 ST4-7, a mix of CT3-6, CT1/GP VTS/F2 or F1 doctors, and 6 full-time Physician Associates.
The hospital is an associate teaching hospital of the University of Sheffield, actively involved in undergraduate medical education. Candidates must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of eligibility for entry.

Person Specification
Skills and Abilities
* Willingness and ability to fulfill the key elements of the job, including the shift pattern.
* Possession of the clinical skills required for acute and general internal medicine.
* Ability to handle the demands of a DGH-based Consultant role.
* Leadership and service development skills.
* Ability to develop effective working relationships at all levels and within multi-disciplinary teams.
Experience
* Experience managing a broad Acute Medicine caseload.
* Current ALS certificate or equivalent.
* Experience in a specialist interest that complements existing staff skills.
Management
* Ability to work effectively with management.
* Evidence of formal management training.
Qualifications
* MRCP or equivalent.
* Full GMC registration, with proven skills and recent experience in acute medicine, or within 12 months of specialist registration in Acute Medicine or GIM, or applying via GMC CESR with submission completed at interview.
