Brief description
We are looking for a technician to join Specialist Fleet Services (SFS) in this home-based role. If you’re located within the M25 corridor and have at least five years’ technical experience on municipal vehicles and previous people management experience, then we’d like to hear from you.
Purpose of the role
To ensure all repairs, maintenance, and servicing of vehicles are completed to a high standard, and vehicle maintenance and compliance regulations are adhered to at all times. You will also assist with pre-delivery inspections of new fleet vehicles and assets throughout the customer network.
Duties and responsibilities
* Carry out ministry inspections, LOLERs, MOTs, body inspections, and services to comply with customer O’ license and all legal requirements.
* Use the fleet management system (Fleetwave) effectively.
* Provide cover for technicians and workshop controllers, including completing paperwork, ordering parts, and resolving warranty repairs.
* Inspect fleet vehicles not maintained by SFS, report on fleet condition, and ensure external maintenance providers meet quality standards.
* Maintain, use, and store equipment correctly; report failures to the workshop controller.
* Ensure vehicles are safe before returning to the customer.
* Complete pre-delivery and specification approval inspections.
About You
Skills
* Technical experience with vehicle electrical systems (12V/24V), hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
* Understanding of Health and Safety regulations.
* Ability to work independently.
* Knowledge of Fleetwave fleet management system.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
* Organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
Qualifications and experience
Minimum five years’ technical experience on municipal vehicles (e.g., refuse, sweepers), preferably in a workshop environment. Recognized qualifications such as an apprenticeship, VOSA vehicle inspection course, or municipal vehicle manufacturing training are required. A full clean HGV license (category C) and previous people management experience are essential.
Working hours
45 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with one hour for lunch. Hours may vary based on business needs, with potential for travel and overnight stays.
