Job Description
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC three times per week, with flexibility to support live race events during weekends.
The Role
Seeking a Motorsports Sportscar Data Analyst to develop and refine race strategy tools using data science and modeling techniques, enabling insightful pre-race planning and real-time decision-making during live race events.
What You’ll Do
1. Refine existing AI/ML models for Sportscars, updating Python code as needed.
2. Develop a platform for Monte Carlo simulations.
3. Create and refine tire degradation models for accurate predictions.
4. Design visualizations to effectively communicate insights, collaborating with IT and software teams for deployment.
5. Verify and enhance race strategy tools and models, working with IMSA and WEC teams.
6. Analyze vehicle pace considering track migration, traffic, energy strategies, and tire/fuel effects.
7. Predict pace variations to inform session strategies.
8. Collaborate across GM and motorsports teams to develop and support race strategy tools.
9. Co-develop race strategy software with data science and IT teams.
10. Apply analysis techniques to other racing series for process validation and model refinement.
What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)
* Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
* 5+ years in top-level motorsports series, with 2+ years developing or using strategy tools.
* Deep knowledge of motorsports race strategy tools and analysis during live races.
* Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages.
* Familiarity with AI/ML modeling techniques.
* Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and forward-thinking.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, relationship-building, and patience for mentoring.
Relocation benefits may be available. Travel up to 10% within the US.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master’s degree in a related field.
* Experience in tire modeling, testing, and validation.
* Knowledge of simulation workflows in professional motorsports.
* Experience with machine learning libraries and big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, SQL, NoSQL).
